Today was a beautiful day. We finally got to see our tour coach and meet our driver, Mario. The coach was nice and spacious. Some couples sat together, but there was plenty of room for us to spread out and have a couple seats to ourselves. Our first destination today was Ravenna, home of mosaics. We met our local guide Chiara who took us to Basilica of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placida. Both buildings were just stunning, especially with the golden mosaic tiles that glimmered in the sun. This evening we stayed in Montefalco at Villa Pombufetti.

Highlights: The beautiful sunset was quite a treat! Lori's favorite building we visited today was the Mausoleum of Galla Placida, stunning!
<- Please join us for a little Italian lesson! |
Lowlights: The amount of traffic we came across when hiking around in Montefalco. That was a bit annoying, and it was hard for a tour group of 27 to crowd to the sides quickly.

Today was an excellent day full of wonderful adventure! The day started with a visit to Santa Maria Degli Angeli, which was lovely. The interior of the church has a smaller church built inside. After this we walked through the cloisters and the rose garden. We then headed up to the great city of Assisi for a tour of the stunning Basilica of Saint Francis. Following our tour we were set free to enjoy beautiful Assisi, and to get lunch! What a quirky and beautiful town! It was decorated for a May Day celebration, which made it even more charming!

Highlights: Today was a very hard day to pick a single favorite. Assisi was beautiful and charming, but we also really enjoyed our delicious truffle meal and sunset.
|
Lowlights: While in Assisi we encountered a sudden torrential downpour that had everyone seeking shelter while water ran in a stream down the center streets of the hill town. That was interesting!
