It was a sad morning because we had to leave the beautiful Hotel Belvedere! But we had another magical place to visit today, our surprise Italian Hill Town, Volterra. In Volterra we went to an Alabaster demo at the Rossi Factory. Some of the statues were just incredible, as was the little store we visited after. Volterra is a really cute town anyway! We found the world's best Truffle cheese in Volterra!
After Volterra we drove cross country to the walled town of Lucca. We walked, with luggage in hand, to La Luna, our hotel, then we had a little orientation walk before being set free for the evening. |

After breakfast we met up with Carlo who was replacing Gabriele. Carlo is a local of Lucca and very passionate about his town. His passion was inspiring as he led us through the streets of the walled town.
After touring Lucca we headed out to the countryside for an oil tasting and a light, healthy, lunch. Delicious! We had the afternoon free, so Mario offered to drop us off at the train station since we wanted to go out to Pisa. The ride was not long, and now we can say that we've seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa! We enjoyed our walk through town too. |

<- Please take a minute to walk a few steps through Lucca with us! Below check out a video from our oil tasting.
Highlights: Getting to see The leaning Tower of Pisa in person was certainly a highlight of today! It was also nice to get to know Lucca a little more. Lowlights: We got off the train at Pisa, the first station going into town. There were some ladies milling around on the platform who followed us down into the station. We realized we were going in the wrong direction and went back upstairs, they followed. |
They spoke to us, but at that time someone jumped between one of the girls and Emily, shouting, "Go, now! Gypsies!" We left quickly, only to find that my sister's bag had been completely unzipped, but nothing had been taken. Be careful and be aware. In those moments where you are trying to find your way and you are distracted you are the most vulnerable. Thankfully we had people looking out for us today! Looking back they were very suspicious, but in the moment we had not seen them as a threat. So please be careful when traveling!
